Maternity

The Maternity Unit at St Philip’s Hospital aims to offer the highest quality of care in a supportive, comfortable and professional environment. The Maternity Unit forms an integral part of our acute care Hospital. The Unit comprises a number of single rooms, each with their own ensuite bathroom, television and telephone. The Hospital offers antenatal and post-natal services and wide ranging facilities giving women choice and safety in the delivery of their babies. There are 2 delivery rooms, which are fully equipped to ensure a comfortable and safe delivery. We also provide 24-hour theatre in case a Caesarian section becomes necessary.

A caring team

The Maternity unit has been designed and equipped to the highest standard run by a team of skilled specialist staff who provide their full personal support and attention to ensure that parents enjoy the birth of their baby. Throughout your pregnancy you will be cared for by your obstetrician and our team of midwives. This helps to establish a close relationship between parents-to-be and staff at the Hospital, an essential element to ensure your complete confidence.

Maternity services

St Philip’s is equipped with facilities on site that include a comprehensive range of Pathology services and an Ultrasound Department that provides important information about your baby’s development. At St Philip’s we encourage you to discuss your requirements during labour with our midwives and physiotherapists, who also run our course of antenatal classes.

24 hour Medical Cover

The safety of the mother and baby is granted top priority at St Philip’s Hospital, which provides 24-hour medical back-up form our resident medical Officer. In the case that a caesarean Section is required, a fully equipped operating theatre is close at hand. Moreover, each of the 3 delivery rooms is equipped with a resuscitaire while the Nursery is equipped with phototherapy, an incubator, apnoea mattresses and another resuscitaire. The new father is welcome to join you at any time, including the baby’s birth.

Following delivery

St Philip’s Hospital provides you with peaceful surroundings in which you and your partner can get to yow your new baby. Visitors may call whenever you wish. Our fully-trained and experience midwives and nursing staff are aware of the anxieties of new mothers and are always ready to offer advice, even after you have returned home. Our midwives may also care for your baby in the nursery whilst you rest during the night if you wish, and will wake you when necessary.

Administration

The Department is under the administrative charge of the Senior Radiographer who ensures that all work undertaken by the entire staff of qualified radiographers is dedicated to provide the utmost in care and quality to the individual.
